After Admission - What's Next?
I was awarded a student loan. Now what?
-
Stafford
loan borrowers will be contacted in July, via letter
and/or email, by our loan processor, American
Student Assistance (AMSA), with instructions for
completing a Master Promissory Note (MPN) on line.
Students will
complete this process from home prior to
arrival at Tufts. However, it cannot be completed
prior to summer notification from AMSA.
Students should complete only one MPN,
either paper or electronic version, but not both.
***
Entrance Loan Counseling is also a federal
requirement for Stafford borrowers, and this can be
accomplished, after completing your MPN, by going
here.
-
Perkins loan borrowers will be contacted via
email by our loan processor, University Accounting
Services (UAS), with instructions for completing a
Master Promissory Note on line. The email will
come from the UAS partner,
signmyloan@signmyloan.com. Students
will complete this electronic process from home in
the summer prior to arrival at Tufts.
-
Tufts loan borrowers will be sent instructions
and Promissory Notes directly from the Financial
Services office during the summer. *** The Tufts loan requires BOTH parent and student signatures, and
EACH signature must be notarized, in the summer prior
to arrival at Tufts.
I received an outside scholarship. How
will it affect my aid award? If you receive a non-Tufts private scholarship you must
notify our office in writing. Private scholarships
do not normally reduce the amount you will pay to
the University.
If you want a credit placed on your account for a
scholarship that will arrive after the bill due
date, please provide documentation of the amount
to be received, and a credit will be put on your
account, pending receipt of the actual funds.
However, this can be done only if a check will be
sent made out to BOTH the student and Tufts
University. Visit our web site for a complete
explanation of our
outside scholarship policy.
What will I have to pay and when?University charges for the fall semester (tuition
$18,976, room charge $2,714 board charge $2,545 and
fees $888 = $25,123) will be
electronically billed to families at the
beginning of July. Payment is due the beginning of
August.
IF
you have submitted all required paperwork, your
financial aid will be credited to your University
account by semester, as shown on your Aid Notice.
Your Federal Work Study award, however, is not
subtracted from the bill, as it is funding that is
earned and paid to students on a weekly basis (see
details about Work Study below). Also credited to
your University bill will be the amount of your
Admissions deposit.
A
Student Account Calculator is available to help
you determine what is owed to the University.
Health Insurance is mandatory for all students in
the state of Massachusetts. Insurance provided in
cooperation with the university is available at a
cost of $1,400 for the year, charged in the first
semester. This charge may be waived if a student is
already covered by another health plan. Instructions
for waiving the insurance charge can be viewed
here.
If
participating in the
TuitionPay monthly payment plan, the first of
ten payments is due on May 15. If you sign up in
June, payments for both May and June will be
required. For more information, and to sign up for
the monthly plan, you may go directly to the site
link above. The Plan is found at the top of that
linked page under "Students and Families."
For more details about billing you may visit the
Bursar website.
What is the process to apply for a Federal
Parent PLUS loan? For parents choosing to borrow the federal Parent Loan
for Undergraduate Students (PLUS loan), the
application process is
completed through
our website
here. Any amount borrowed in a PLUS
loan will be divided into two equal payments (minus
4% fees), usually one in the Fall and the second in
the Spring semester. Repayment begins 60 days after
the second disbursement. Complete PLUS loan
information is found on the link above.
What financial aid paperwork might be
required of me after admission?
-
Check your aid application
on line to make sure it is complete. Submit
any missing documents as soon as possible.
-
Submit the blue Financial Aid Confirmation form as
soon as possible to ensure that all aid is
transferred to your bill. If you have lost your
copy, one can be downloaded from our
website.
-
If there is a sibling enrolled in 2008 - 2009, you
will receive a Sibling Verification Form some time
during the summer. You must fill in the first
section. Your sibling must fill in the second
section and submit the form to her or his school
to be completed and forwarded to Tufts. The form
can also be downloaded from our web site. Aid
awards will be revised if this form is missing
upon file review at the end of September.
How does work study work?
The Federal Work Study award is not an award that can be
subtracted from your bill. Rather, it is funding set
aside for you to earn while at Tufts. Once you
arrive on campus and have your academic schedule set
for the semester, you will receive a password and
pin number which will allow you to log onto the
Employment
web site to access all information needed to
find a job. When you secure employment you will
begin to receive a paycheck, at the end of each
week, for hours worked. This paycheck will be
electronically deposited into your designated bank
account.
Where do I go with questions about my
financial aid?
Your first contact should be the specialists in
Student Services who are trained to answer any
questions you may have about financial aid and
billing issues. They can be reached at (617)
627-2000, or via email at studentservices@tufts.edu.
If they can not answer your question you will be
referred to your aid counselor. Each student has a
counselor assigned to her or him, and assignment is
based on alphabetical order, by student's last name:
A-E, Amy Piantedosi; F-L,
Laura Ortiz; M-Q,
Ilene Coddon and
R-Z, Albert Mangini.
