Academic Preparation

Postbaccalaureate (Postbac) Programs

Postbaccalaureate (Postbac) Programs are designed for college graduates to do coursework after their bachelor’s degree is completed in order to prepare to apply to medical school or other health professions graduate school. But different programs serve different populations of students. Click here to read about what postbac programs are, how to distinguish, and what questions to ask as you research individual programs (get to my article on the Postbac Primer).

Tufts offers two different postbaccalaureate premed programs.

For college graduates who have not taken the premed requirements:

Tufts offers a Postbaccalaureate Premed Program for this population of students. The program is based in the office of Undergraduate Education on the Medford campus. Students take undergraduate premed lab science courses alongside Tufts undergraduates. For more information about this program, please visit http://uss.tufts.edu/undergradEducation/academics/postbac/

For college graduates who need to strengthen an existing science record:

Tufts offers a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences Degree Program for this population of students. The program is based at the School of Medicine on the Boston Health Sciences Campus. Students take first year medical courses (majority) as well as some unique graduate level science courses. For more information about this program, please visit www.tufts.edu/med/education/mbs.
