PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR

This application process will be detailed and stressful. But it is a good opportunity to start practicing the professional qualities and habits that are critical to all health professionals. I will be reminding you throughout the summer of these qualities so you are aware of them, can put them into practice, and can be well prepared for your interviews.
Point 1 – If you are asked to choose a member of the HPRC to interview you, respect the time of these committee members by not asking all of them. Make your choice, ask one person, wait for a reply and then ask another if that member is no longer available. It is rude and inconsiderate to expect multiple people to respond to you, and even put you on their calendars, and to hold multiple slots. You would not want to book multiple patients for the same appointment time and expect all but one of them to waste their time while you are unavailable. In fact you may have experienced that as a patient – I am sure you did not appreciate being treated that way. Treat others as you would like to be treated – with respect.

WHAT MAY 1 MEANS

As you know, all unofficial transcripts are due today. You have control over that. You need to inform us which HPRC member will be interviewing you. You have some control over that, but students who waited too long to start asking may be having trouble now. You needed to have all your individual recommendations in by today. You have very little control over that.
What is really important? It is important – actually, absolutely required – that all your materials, including transcripts, resume, essay, and all your letters of recommendation to be used in your committee packet be on file here prior to your HPRC interview. We need 2 working days to prepare your file and get it to your HPRC interviewer prior to your interview. If you are interviewing very soon, it is therefore necessary that you meet these deadlines now. If your interview is not for another month or two, then it is less critical. But you should still follow up on all these points and get your materials and letters in as soon as possible.
Please understand that interviews will be cancelled if all materials are not in your file. Plan for that when you schedule your interview.
