TIMELINE

Where should I be now in the application process?

AMCAS – plan to complete and submit in June or early July
AACOMAS – plan to complete and submit in July or August
AADSAS – plan to complete and submit in June or July
VMCAS – plan to complete and submit between July and September

**Applications are submitted before letters of recommendation. They are usually submitted after test scores are received so the applicant knows the strength of his/her profile. However applications may be submitted prior to the test scores being received.

COMPLETING APPLICATIONS

As you complete applications, two things are very helpful. The first is to thoroughly read instructions, help menus, tips and FAQs from the application service as well as our emails and website. The second is to put yourself in the shoes of the reviewer. An application that is clear, succinct, well written, honest and genuine will appeal to most reviewers who have typically worked all day and are looking at your application as an add-on to their positions.

SENDING OUT YOUR LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

This will not begin for another month. I will review the procedure outlined in the HPRC Info Packet in July. Please do not send in your request now because it will be returned to you. Trust us that letters mailed on August 1 will in no way hinder your candidacy. Remember the timeline above.

The AMCAS screen shot explains how to list the Tufts HPRC and early next week we will post the AADSAS screen shots that will do the same thing.

MED SCHOOLS AND INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Many of you have expressed interest in this so:
The Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) together with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) created an online directory, International Opportunities in Medical Education (IOME) that provides information about international training opportunities available at U.S. medical schools:

APPOINTMENTS AND OFFICE HOURS

Please call 617-627-2000 if you want to schedule an appointment. Shirley has more available than Carol. Carol will continue to do open hours. Shirley will pick them up on July 14th when Carol is away. All appointments can be done via phone but not open hours.

Regards,
Carol
