Application Process
Health Professions Recommendation Committee (HPRC)
The Health Professions Recommendations Committee at
Tufts is a faculty committee whose role is to write
composite letters of recommendation for those Tufts
students and alumni applying to health professions
schools. All of the medical, dental, optometry and
podiatry schools to which you apply will prefer (or even
require) a committee letter. (Veterinary schools through
VMCAS do not typically want a committee letter but you
should register with the HPRC; except Tufts University
Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine highly values our
committee letter.) Therefore, the work you do with the
HPRC is an important piece of your application process.

Applicant Handbook
Students applying to health professions schools in 2013 should be sure to read the Applicant Handbook online at

handbook gives an overview of the application process,
important dates and deadlines, and a suggested timeline.

A STEP-BY-STEP OUTLINE OF THE WORK YOU WILL DO WITH
THE
Health Professions Recommendation Committee:
1) By April 1, 2013: Submit a completed
Registration Form: part I
2) By May 1: Have submitted on your behalf letters of recommendation from four to five individuals.
At least one must be from a Tufts professor who has
taught you. A composite letter will not be written
without at least three letters, one from a Tufts ASE
faculty member.
3) By May 1: Submit a completed Registration
Form: part II
4) May 1: You will be assigned your HPRC faculty
representative and should contact that person to
schedule your interview. Report the date of the
interview to
hprc@ase.tufts.edu as soon as it is known.
5) By May 1: Have copies of any non-Tufts college
transcripts sent to your HPRC file. Your photocopies are
acceptable. Transcripts can be emailed to
hprc@ase.tufts.edu
or mailed to Tufts University, Administrative Support-HPRC,
419 Boston Avenue, Dowling Hall, Medford, MA 02155.
6) May 1- August 9: Interview with a
member of the HPRC. You must report your interview date
to
hprc@ase.tufts.edu and must have ALL materials –
registration forms and all letters of recommendation- on
file before you may interview. If a file is incomplete
at interview time, the interview will be automatically
cancelled and you will have to reschedule with the
interviewer.
7) July through September: Complete the “Request
for Letters to Be Sent” form online, print it out and
submit with the appropriate fee and other documents to
HPRC Administrative Support, Dowling Hall. The form will
not be accepted before July 1, and if submitted will be
returned to you. The form will be posted on the website
and sent to applicants in June.
8) Out of courtesy, please notify your HPRC interviewer
when you receive an acceptance.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD PLAN FOR A 4 TO 6 WEEK TIME PERIOD
BETWEEN THE HPRC INTERVIEW AND THE POINT AT WHICH
LETTERS ARE READY TO BE SENT. WE ATTEMPT BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE A
SHORTER TURN-AROUND TIME BECAUSE OF THE MANY STEPS
INVOLVED.
HPRC Registration Instructions:
1) Information is to be typed directly into the form;
hand-written forms will not be accepted.
2) Save documents using the following format: last
name,first name partI.doc; e.g. Smith,John partI.docx
3) Completed registration form Part I can be submitted electronically to to
HPRC@ase.tufts.edu.
4) Completed registration form Part II can be mailed to
HPRC, Administrative Support, Dowling Hall, Tufts
University, Medford, MA 02155.
HPRC Individual Recommendation Instructions
1) Information is to be typed directly into the
form; hand-written forms will not be accepted.

4) Completed letters of recommendation can be mailed in
hard copy or submitted electronically directly from the
recommenders. Have your

Recommendation Form.
