Social Justice Leadership Initiative
Co-Chairs:
Tom Bourdon, Director, LGBT Center
Jane Etish-Andrews, Director, International Center
The Social Justice Leadership Initiative, spearheaded by
the Division of Student Affairs, seeks to integrate
traditional leadership concepts and trainings with
principles of social justice.
Social Justice Leadership Training will teach students
to define and analyze power, privilege, and oppression
operating at various individual, institutional, and
cultural levels. Students will learn how to
examine their individual and organizational practices
and policies through this lens, and how to address
issues of racism, homophobia, sexism, classism, and
other social inequalities in their organizations.
Emphasis will be placed on achieving group goals through
an equitable, participatory, and inclusive process.
By working in conjunction with programs and departments
across the university, the Social Justice Leadership
Initiative will enhance the university's mission to
foster leadership and active citizenship.

Student Workshop - Social Justice 101
So what is social justice anyway? In this
interactive workshop, we'll explore some key concepts
which underlie social justice leadership. We'll
discuss how our identities affect our perspectives and
experiences, how the dynamics of privilege and
oppression play out on campus and in society, how to
collaborate across differences, and how to create more
inclusive and just organizations and communities.
Come see what the new buzz is about! RSVP to
Joe Golia.
