SPIRIT
SPIRIT: The Society for the Propagation of
Internal Rejoicing In Tufts, or Students and Professors
Integrating Recreation, Intellect and Teaching is a
program designed to promote information and/or
intellectual contacts between faculty and their students
or advisees outside the classroom. SPIRIT
is very open to your ideas about how this goal
can be accomplished. However, the following are some of
the programs already in place that we have found to be
quite successful.
Take a Student Out to Lunch.
Pick up a lunch ticket from the Office of the Dean
of the Colleges, Dowling Hall and join a student or
students in a dining hall (not the Campus Center)
or Faculty Dining Room for a free lunch. Fund are
somewhat limited, so please no more than five per
semester. Students can also invite faculty, in which
case this becomes the Take a Faculty Member Out To
Lunch program.
Bring Students Home for Dinner.
SPIRIT will contribute up to $65.00 toward
entertaining expenses for having your class or advisees
to your home for a dinner or picnic. (Regrettably, we
no longer can arrange for Dining Services to prepare the
meals.)
Entertain Students Outside of Class, But Not at
Home.
Money is available for entertaining your students or
advisees outside the classroom, e.g. a pizza parlor, or
ethnic restaurant, or cultural or recreational
activity. Limit of $6.00 per person up to $65.00 per
class. Limit of one per class per semester. Note:
Realistically, $6.00 may not always fully cover one
person's meal. However, students appreciate a generous
subsidy and do not mind making up the difference.
Celebrate with Your Seniors.
SPIRIT will cost-share with departments or programs
a year-end reception for majors. The amount of the
subsidy depends on how depleted the SPIRIT fund is, so
plan early! For more information please contact
