Non-Tufts Programs
Financial Aid on Non-Tufts Programs
Financial aid students who plan to study elsewhere
need to make careful financial plans in order to finance
their study. The following information outlines the
general policies and procedures for financial aid for
study elsewhere programs. If you have any questions or
wish to discuss your situation in more detail, please
make an appointment with your financial aid officer.
If you attend a non-Tufts program, you are not eligible
to receive a full financial aid award. If you will
receive credit towards the Tufts degree for the program,
you may be eligible for a limited financial aid package
which could include a Pell Grant, a state scholarship,
or a Stafford Student Loan. Scholarships and grants from
Tufts University will not be awarded for study on
non-Tufts programs. You also may apply for financial aid
directly from the non-Tufts program. However, you can
apply for Pell Grants, state scholarships, and Stafford
Student Loans only through Tufts.
The cost of many non-Tufts programs is less than the
cost at Tufts. Therefore, some students who are eligible
for a Stafford loan while attending Tufts may not be
eligible to borrow while attending a non-Tufts program.
If you need additional assistance to pay for a non-Tufts
program, your parents may be eligible for a PLUS loan or
other unsubsidized parent loans. Contact the financial
aid office for details.
The bursar’s office will not transfer any financial aid
funds to your non-Tufts program until those funds are
actually received (i.e., Stafford Loan checks received
and Pell Grants processed). This typically means that
you cannot rely on these funds to pay the bill for your
non-Tufts program unless the program will allow you an
extension of their usual deadlines.
If you plan to attend a non-Tufts program:
1. You must notify the financial aid office in writing
or on your financial aid application.
2. You must also submit a Consortium Agreement Form,
available from the financial aid office. This form must
be completed by the non-Tufts program and returned to
the aid office in order for them to process your aid.
3. If your loan agency requires a "verification of
full-time status" for the semester you are abroad, it
must be requested from the non-Tufts program you are
attending.

Tufts Tuition Prepayment Option
Study abroad students who are participating in the Tufts
Tuition Prepayment Option may request that the money
paid to Tufts University be paid to the institution they
will attend. Regulations governing how prepaid funds can
be used are available from the bursar’s office.
Study Elsewhere Fee
To meet the costs of administrative procedures connected
with study at other institutions (both in the United
States and abroad) all students studying elsewhere will
be charged a fee of $400 at the beginning of the term of
approved leave. Students on Tufts Programs Abroad
will not be charged this fee.
