Financial Aid for Tufts Programs
Abroad
Tufts students already receiving
financial aid at Tufts may continue to receive their
scholarship awards while enrolled in one of the Tufts
Programs Abroad. Students must apply in advance for all
scholarships, loans, or other forms of financial aid at
the Office of Financial Aid. The Office of Programs
Abroad will assist Tufts-in-Japan participants in the
application process for the JASSO scholarship. Non-Tufts
students are not eligible for financial aid from Tufts
University and should apply for aid or loans through
their own college or university.
Please review carefully what the comprehensive fee includes for each program.

Academic Credit
All academic credit on Tufts Programs Abroad,
including credit for attending host-country university
courses, is awarded by Tufts. The resident director
supervises and monitors students’ progress in order to
ensure that all students obtain full credit for courses
taken in each program. Grades are given by professors
according to the grading system of each country. These
grades are then converted by each resident director into
the equivalent Tufts grades. Students are normally able
to obtain four Tufts course credits or sixteen semester
hours for each semester of study abroad which is
equivalent to the normal load at Tufts.
Tufts students should keep in mind that while all
courses taken on a Tufts program abroad will count
toward graduation from Tufts University, it is up to
each department to decide which courses will count
toward the major. Students are advised to consult with
their major department(s) regarding major credit for
specific courses.
Honors at Graduation
Students who think they might be eligible for degree honors at
graduation (see
Tufts Bulletin) should consider a Tufts program
abroad. Grades earned on a Tufts program will count toward degree honors
(cum laude, etc.); transfer credit will not.
