Introduction
The Tufts-in-London program, which enrolls up to fifty students, is completely integrated into University College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies. University College London, founded in 1826, is the oldest, largest, and most distinguished college of the University of London. The University of London was the third to be set up in England, preceded by Oxford and Cambridge, and the first to admit students regardless of class, religion, race, or sex. With 22,000 students of whom approximately one-third come from more than 130 countries outside the UK, and a faculty of more than 3,800 academics and research staff in 72 departments, it is one of the most diverse universities in England. The college is also known for its strong scholastic tradition, and even boasts 20 Nobel prize winners among its graduates and past faculty.

With a student population of around 3,000, of whom approximately one-quarter are from outside the UK, SOAS is considerably smaller than its close neighbor, UCL, but since its formation in 1916, it has built an equally strong academic reputation as a world center for the study of an extensive range of subjects- including languages- concerned with Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

University College London is located on an eleven-acre enclosed campus in the heart of the Bloomsbury district, in the center of London. Surrounded by museums and other institutions belonging to the University of London, and with the British Museum, British Library, and Courtauld Galleries only yards away, University College London offers unrivaled opportunities for study and research. The cultural attractions of London are all within easy reach of the college. Nearby are more than twenty theaters, the Royal Opera House, the National Gallery, and the National Portrait Gallery. The National Theatre, the Victoria and Albert and Geological Museums, and the Museums of Science and Natural History are also within easy traveling distance. The college’s central position in relation to the cultural and social life of the capital city makes traveling and access simple and inexpensive.

Tufts in London is a one-year program of academic study, and only students who apply for the full year will be accepted.
