About the Dean

  Dean of Academic Advising & Undergraduate Studies  
  Carmen Lowe was appointed Interim Dean of Undergraduate Studies in September 2010 and Dean of Academic Advising & Undergraduate Studies in July 2011. Dean Lowe oversees academic support services for both graduate and undergraduate students in Engineering and Arts & Sciences, including the Academic Resource Center, undergraduate deans and advising system, the SPIRIT Fund, the Summer Scholars Program, the Undergraduate Research Fund, and other programs and services to enrich student research and scholarship.

Dean Lowe, who holds a Ph.D. in English from Tufts, has worked for the ARC since 1999 and was appointed director in June 2005. Under her leadership, the ARC developed the Time Management & Study Strategies Program, academic integrity workshops for incoming students, a public speaking program, and expanded access to tutors by locating them across campus, in addition to Dowling and the residence halls. She served on The Task Force on Retention and Student Success and the Writing Requirement Subcommittee of President Bacow's 2003 Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience. Dean Lowe is also an affiliate faculty member of the American Studies Program.
