Tuition & Financial Aid
The program fee for May 2009 through April 2010
is $25,250. This is a one-time program
fee, not a per academic year fee.
If a student starts the program at any time
during this period, they will
pay $25,250 for their program, no matter how
long they are enrolled in the program.
That means anyone who starts May 2009 or
September 2009 or January 2010 will pay $25,250
for their program fee. This
program fee will be billed in two installments. One installment (for half of the tuition)
will be billed and due before a student begins the program. The second
(and final) installment will be billed
later in that student's academic year.
The program fee covers the eight science courses, with their related laboratories,
that each student needs to take to fulfill their
requirements. These eight courses are, in
most cases, 2 semesters each of Biology,
Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. A small lab
fee is charged in Chemistry I and II and Organic Chemistry I and II, and this is an additional fee
paid at the time a student begins Chemistry.
A student who has completed a required lab
science or two prior to matriculating at Tufts
may opt to take other courses (up to the eight
lab sciences covered by the program fee), in
consultation with the program advisor.
Students who choose to take courses beyond the eight
covered lab science courses
may do so, but they will be required to pay additional tuition
for each course taken. All other Postbac
workshops, receptions, and ancillary programming
are provided at no additional cost to the
student.
For purposes of federal financial aid
eligibility, Postbac Premed students are
considered enrolled in "preparatory coursework
to enroll in a graduate program."
Dependent students may borrow a total of $7,500
(subsidized and/or unsubsidized) through the federal Stafford
Loan Program. Independent students are eligible to borrow a
total of $12,500 through the federal Stafford
Loan Program. Postbac Premed students can
only receive a Stafford loan for a two-semester
period (one year) per federal regulations. Students must be enrolled at least
half-time (2 courses per semester minimum). Postbac students and applicants
who wish to apply for a Stafford Loan should complete and submit the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
