Outside Scholarships

Our office occasionally receives scholarship offers from private organizations and donors. As this information is received, it is posted below.  You may go directly to the linked websites provided, or to the office of Student Financial Services, if noted, to get the relevant application. Please note that this page is updated only as information is received.

>> Gilman International Scholarship Program for Pell recipients who will study abroad. Deadlines vary.

>> WIIT (Women in International Trade) Scholarship. $1500 scholarships awarded to female undergraduate and graduate college students with demonstrated interest in international development, international relations, international trade international economics or international business. Deadline: March 15, 2013 (for Summer or Fall 2013 assistance) and July 15, 2013 (for Spring 2014 assistance).

>> Orazio DiMauro Foundation Scholarship. $2000 and $3500 scholarships for students majoring in engineering or attending medical school during the 2012-2013 academic year. Students must be a resident of the great Bridgeport, CT area, which includes Trumbull, Monroe, Easton, Fairfield, Shelton, Stratford, and demonstrates financial need.  Applications for this scholarship can be secured from the Orazio DiMauro Foundation or by email at ifidi@aol.com.  Deadline: March 31

>> New England Employee Benefits Council. Scholarships for full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students interested in a career in a benefits-related area (eg Human Resources, Health Care Program Design, Retirement Strategies, Legal Aspects of Employee Benefits). Awards up to $5000. Deadline: April 1st

>> Society for Professional Journalists (CT Chapter). Scholarships for Connecticut residents pursuing a career in journalism. You must be an undergraduate junior or senior beginning in the Fall semester of 2013. Scholarships range from $500 to $2500. (1) $5000 Grand Prize, (4) $2,500 Second Prizes, and (35) $1,000 Third Prizes.  Deadline: April 8

>> Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship. Two $5000 scholarships will be awarded to students committed to reducing tobacco use through community service for an underserved community and through the use of visual arts.  for students who demonstrate the difference they have made in their communities though volunteering. Deadline: April 30

>> MassMutual Scholars Program. $5000 scholarships for high-achieving African American, Asian/Pacific Islander & Hispanic students entering their sophomore, junior, senior or 5th-year senior year and interested in a career in the insurance and financial services industry. Deadline: May 3

>> Adler Pollock & Sheehan Diversity Scholarship. $10,000 scholarship foran undergraduate representing a diverse group (eg African American, American Indian, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Gay/Lesbian, or other minority group) who will be entering his/her first year of an ABA accredited law school within the U.S. this fall. You must be a resident of Massachusetts or Rhode Island. Deadline: June 1st

>> Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholarship Program. Various scholarships for students of Hispanic heritage who will be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution during the academic year. Apply online at: www.hsf.net  Deadline:  Varies

>> Asian Woman in Business Scholarship. $2500 scholarships awarded to Asian female undergraduate college students with demonstrated scholarship, leadership, community service and/ or entrepreneurial experience. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Deadline: October 1, 2012.

>> Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This private foundation will award up to $30,000 annually per recipient to help students and recent alumni from community colleges and two-year institutions pursue four-year degrees at any accredited college or university in the United States. Current students are eligible, as are alumni who earned a degree from a community or two-year institution since spring 2007 and have not since transferred to a four-year college. All candidates for the scholarship must be nominated by the faculty representative at their community college or two-year institution. The list of faculty representatives and a link to the online application are available on the Foundation’s website, www.jkcf.org. Deadline: December

>>  MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation offers two scholarship programs for students from the MA metro west area who are pursuing nursing, medical, clinical, and oral health professions.  No deadline. 

>> The Iris-Samuel Rothman Scholarship. This scholarship, in honor of a promising young man who died at age 22, is for a young man who has lost his mother and father (both). Also eligible is a young man who has lost his mother and has either lost his father or does not have a father available to him. Questions can be sent to mrothman77@aol.com

>> AES Engineers Scholarship. $500 scholarships. Believe that a high grade point average should not be the only criteria in determining who deserves to be helped. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. Scholarships are intended for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. >>  The HIAS Scholars Program. $4000 scholarship for students who immigrated to the United States with HIAS’ assistance. Deadline: February 29, 2012

>> Hispanic College Fund Scholarship. $500-$10,000 scholarships for students of Hispanic heritage who will be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution during the 2011-2012 academic year and has a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Apply online at: http://scholarships.hispanicfund.org  Deadline: March 1, 2012

>> JVS Scholarship Program. $1,000-$5000 scholarships for financially challenged Jewish students from Los Angeles planning to pursue higher education full-time (college, graduate and vocational). A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required. Apply online at: www.jvsla.org/scholarship  Deadline: March 16, 2012
